Why JLT moves are different
JLT has 26 clusters, named A through Z. Each cluster contains three towers and runs its own security desk independently.
That means a move between two clusters just 200 metres apart involves two separate permit applications and two security clearances. Nothing is coordinated centrally.
There is also a practical issue many people discover too late: many JLT clusters have underground loading bays with vehicle height restrictions of around 2.2 to 2.5 metres. A standard large moving truck may not fit. This needs to be confirmed before the vehicle is dispatched.
The DMCC permit process
Do you need a permit to move in JLT?
Yes. Without an approved permit, security at the cluster gate will not allow the crew to proceed.
Permits are applied for through the DMCC portal or through your tower’s property management company, depending on the building. Confirm which process applies to your specific tower as early as possible.
What documents are typically needed?
- Signed tenancy contract or title deed
- Emirates ID or passport copy
- Landlord NOC (for tenants)
- Moving company trade licence and insurance certificate

How far in advance?
At least five to seven days for most buildings. For end-of-month moves, start earlier — permit delays are the most common reason JLT moves get disrupted.
The loading bay issue
Many JLT cluster loading bays sit below the podium, accessed via a ramp. Vehicle height is often restricted to 2.2 to 2.5 metres.
If the wrong size truck arrives and cannot enter, options on the day are limited. Items either need to be carried a long distance from surface parking, or the move needs rescheduling.

Service elevators in JLT towers
Most JLT residential towers have service elevators shared across all residents. Booking a time slot is separate from getting the move permit — both need to be confirmed before moving day.
At month-end, elevator slots can be limited. Many JLT leases expire simultaneously, and competing demand is real.
An early morning start helps, but securing a written elevator booking in advance matters more.

Moving between JLT and nearby areas
JLT is directly across Sheikh Zayed Road from Dubai Marina. Cross-community moves between the two are common, but the permit systems are completely separate and need to run in parallel.
